Task 1 – Types of Research

Primary Research

There are two types of research there is primary and there is secondary, Both types of research are used in the gaming industry. 
Primary research is a type of research that is hand created and is used to be given direct answers. Primary research can be collected by questionnaires, surveys and face to face interviews. Primary research is a good skill to learn because many businesses are all interested in this skill there is. The types of primary research are all needed in different situations:

• Surveys include a limited amount of questions to ask and are used if you want to keep all information in one place and if you want to ask a group of people.
• Face to face interviews are a good way of collecting primary research because you will be asking just one person the questions and you will be getting it directly from the source.
• Questionnaires are a good kind of primary research because you can find information such as facts and opinions. Primary research in questionnaires can take less time at consuming the answers however it can be difficult at consuming than interviews do.

Advantages of primary research

• It is your own research that you have found out.
• A lot of questions can be asked to receive a good amount of responses.

Disadvantages of primary research

• It can take along time to receive the answers 

Secondary research

Secondary research is another type of research. Secondary research has already been done for you and has already been collected. There are many ways of collecting secondary research like the Internet, The internet is used to collect research that cant be found anywhere else,The internet has a wide range of websites to collect information from like Wikipedia or Reddit. In the gaming industry Reddit is used a lot.Reddit is used for questions on certain games that people may have or questions on walkthrough's and on how to complete certain objectives on games. Another way of collecting secondary research is through the library, The library is used for any information that people may have on historical events that have occurred.

Advantages of secondary research

• It is fast and easy to find
• Theirs no going out the way to find the information 

Disadvantages of secondary research

• The information may not always be true.

Quantitative Research

Quantitative research is research that is recorded through numbers this means percentages, ratings and charts. These examples can be taken from questionnaires or surveys. Quantitative research is recorded and is compared to qualitative research. Qualitative research

Qualitative research is asking open questions that collects a little bit more information than quantitative research collects.

Qualitative research is useful to game publishers because they can ask people to play a game that they are making and then they can ask them what they think.

The advantages of qualitative research:

• Uses subjective information
• Explores new areas of research
• provides face to face indicators 

The disadvantages of qualitative research:

• relatively small numbers
• very time consuming
